SOCHUM - General Assembly Third Committee

The Social, Cultural and Humanitarian Committee, also known as the General Assembly Third Committee Third Committee or simply SOCHUM, is the third sub-committee of one of the six principal organs of United Nations, the General Assembly. As the General Assembly incorporating all member states in its structure was established after the foundation of UN, it began to require a division of fields and agenda items accordingly to assignments of experts and diplomats dealing with issues. Thus, six main committees of the General Assembly were established and commenced their implementations in the contexts that they were allocated when dealing with world issues. SOCHUM; as to be perceived by its name, deals with sociological aspects of global issues including culture protection, social and economic development, improvement of life standards, achieving gender equality, prevention of human rights violations, promotion and providing of education, elimination of all sorts of racism and racial discrimination, elimination of contemporary slavery and child soldiers, cultural and humanitarian effects of migration and rights of refugees along with all human-based and society-related issues and implementations. SOCHUM welcomes both experienced and inexperienced participants under its framework and is a constitution in Model United Nations that usually is a major influence for inexperienced delegates in learning and acknowledging the procedure and ambience of Model UN conferences.
